New business to take over the former Foodtown site

A long‑awaited change is finally coming to one of Toms River’s most talked‑about vacant properties. The former Foodtown site — empty since the supermarket closed in 2015 — has officially received the approvals needed for redevelopment.

The property sits along one of the township’s busiest corridors and has been a lingering question mark for residents for more than a decade. With approvals now secured, the site is poised to move forward, bringing new activity to a space that has sat dormant far too long.

Township officials say the project will revitalize a highly visible location, improve the look of the surrounding area, and support ongoing efforts to modernize older commercial sites throughout Toms River.

More details — including an opening timeline and what the project will offer the community — will be shared as plans progress.

The incoming business taking over the former Foodtown property is Restaurant Depot, a members‑only wholesale supplier serving restaurants, caterers, and food‑service professionals.
